Legal Question in Family Law in California

Emotional Abuse by Stepmom

I have physical custody of my 11 year old daughter. Her dad has her on alternating weekends. When she is over there for visits, my ex new wife is verbally abusive towards her, yelling at her constantly and making her stay in her room for long lengths of time for no reason. My ex is not doing anything about it at all. When I bring it up with him, he just disregards it and defends his wife. I have no problem with my daughter spending time with her dad but I don't want her around her stepmom. This is effecting my daughter's self esteem. Is there anything I can do legally to prevent my ex new wife from having contacting with my daughter? Please advise. Thank you.

Take your daughter to a counselor. The counseling should help in two ways. First it will help her deal with the situation; Second the counselor will be able to provide information if it is necessary to modify custody. Attempting to modify custody without proper preparation could result in the situation getting worse.
