Legal Question in Family Law in California
employment verification
To whom it may concern:
The father of my child has informed me that he has lost his job(again). Therefore, there is no child support or health insurance for the child. However, he has a new car, designer clothes, and rents an apartment. Is there anyway I can ask the D.A.'s office (I already have an order regarding support and health insurance coverage) to investigate or subpoena certain documents that can aid in seeing if he does have money coming in? Like rent receipts, utility receipts, bank account information, and car insurance payment receipts? Please help. Thank you for your time.

Re: employment verification
The district attorney must take reasonable steps to enforce child support orders. Inform the district attorney that you have not received child support, the home address, and license plate number for the car the father drives.
This should give the district attorney enough information to start enforcement proceedings for the unpaid support. Your should record a certified copy of the support order with the county recorder's office. If his name appears on the deed to any real property in that county a lien will attach immediately. You will be able to collect any unpaid support when he sells the property, or attempts to refinance it.
Depending on the county you live in the district attorney's office takes either a hard line approach to support cases, or a less harsh attitude about enforcement. Be sure to maintain contact with the district attorney's office.
