Legal Question in Family Law in California

Ending Child support payments

My Stipulation and order of Child Support states that I pay XXX amount of child support ''until such time as the child reaches the age of eighteen -- or nineteen, if pursuant to Ca. Family Code Scetion 3901, the child is a full-time high school student and a full time resident of custodial parents home, is married, becomes self-supporting or otherwise emancipates, whichever event shall first occur, or until further order of the Court.

My son turns 18 in February but does not graduate from highschool until June. When can I stop payments?

Thank you.

Without looking at your documents, the general rule is that you would stop paying child support when your child attains the age of 19, or graduates from high school, whichever first occurs, provided that your child is living with a parent.

For a specific opinion regarding your individual circumstances, I suggest that you consult with an experienced family law lawyer. Experience is not expensive, it's priceless!
