Legal Question in Family Law in California
Entitlements after 10 year relationship
I know that some states have common law marriages. I don't know if California is one of them. If a decision is made to dissolve a relationship of more than 10 years are either partys entitled to anything from one another? We have lived together for over 10 years but have not shared our name on anything but have shared finances.

Califorinia is not a common law marriage state, but there is a precedent making case based on the lawsuit against movie actor Lee Marvin's by his live-in girlfriend which established "Palomony" as opposed Alimony. Therefore if you have suffered a reduction instandard of living due to the break up you may petition the court for support. Call me directly at (619) 222-3504.

California is not a common law state. Although, there is a right to ownership in property purchased by a person in a relationship. You might also be able to seek palimony. The majority of rights given to a spouse are not available to you. If the break up cannot be done amicably, then you should consult a local attorney. Good luck and thanks for inquiring.

Rights of marriage are not available to you as you simply were not married according to California law. California will recognize a marriage recognized in another state, so if your relationship was recognized as a common law marriage in another state prior to moving to California, may have claim. There may be benefits available under palomony laws. Please call to discuss. 800-6856950
