I would like to establish some type of custody agreement with my child's father. Would I be able to do this on my own or do I have to have legal counsel?

If the child's father is cooperative you can do this on your own. Is there a divorce involved or are you unmarried parents. If you will be divorcing, How to Do Your Own Divorce in California is a great book, easy to read, easy to use, all the forms. If you are unmarried parents, your local county Department of Child Support Services will help establish paternity, set up a custody plan and get a child support order in place based on how much time the child spends with each parent and how much each parent earns.
