Legal Question in Family Law in California

I have an existing child custody case before the court. At the time I filed for custody I hadn't been back in California for six months yet so I couldn't include the petition for dissolution of marriage. The current case only covers custody, visitation and child support.

I would now like to commence dissolution of marriage proceedings as well. Can I add that to the existing child custody case, and if so, what is the procedure or which form(s) must I file? Or do I need to start a new case for the dissolution of marriage.

You had to file something other than custody. Those issues are tied to either a parentage action, a dissolution action, an annulment, or a legal separation. They don't stand on their own.

Is it a Petition for Custody and Support that you filed? That is a stand alone type of case that isn't used too often, but exists.
