A Smith Ostler order is one where because someone has fluctuating income, like significant bonuses or commissions, a base income amount for guideline child support is determined and then a "percentage order" is entered, providing for a sliding percentage for support to be paid out of commissions/bonuses/royalties. The Judicial Council approved software for determining support contains charts and percentages, you just have to know how to use them.
