Legal Question in Family Law in California

My ex-wife and I have joint custody, however she has physical custody. I learned that a week ago, she took my 16 y.o. son out of school and out of state to Hollywood, CA to meet some "agents" and try to get into acting/modeling. She did all of this without my permission or knowledge. Last night I learned that she left my son in California with an "agent" and he is still there and plans to be there for at least a month! Where do I begin- -police, lawyers and what state? I did not give consent for travel. or to be out of school, but my son being with some stranger scares the hell out of me. My ex will not answer her phone, and will not email me or call me back. I am in the military overseas which makes this even more complicated.

You need to file for an emergency hearing to force her to put your son back in school and advise her that she can't leave him alone. Your base should have an office where they can help you prepare the forms. Alternatively, a lawyer can prepare and file them for you. The motion should be filed with the court that last made orders on your case. In an emergency another state may take jurisdiction and make temporary orders then transfer it to where it belongs. We do free consults and can arrange to do one over the telephone. Thank you for your military service.
