Legal Question in Family Law in California
Failure to show up in court
I am thinking of filing for a divorce to my husband of 4 yrs. We have no children together and have been living seperatley for over a year. I also have a case pending where I might have to serve a year sentence in the county jail. What happens if I file for a divorce now and then I am in custody at the time when I am ordered to appear in court? Also, is there any time of legal services for inmates of the Los Angeles jail?

Re: Failure to show up in court
You poor dear. It's very difficult to do anything from jail, and they will probably not bring you "out to court" for your divorce hearing. I do not know what to tell you about whether you should file now or later because you have given so little information. The good news is that the LA jails are overcrowded and lots of people get early releases.
