Legal Question in Family Law in California

family dispute

my friend has allowed her daughter(24 yrs. old)/boyfriend to stay temporarily in her apt. for 2 mos. - she now has told them to leave. They say they don't have to go as they have ''squatter's rights'' is that true? Thank you!

Re: family dispute

No they do not have "squatters rights", but she will need to bring an unlawful detainer action against him. She can get a judgment against him and if that goes unpaid will harm his credit record and may cause him problems in getting another apartment. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
