while you both are married, considered community property?

Yes, if community property assets were used to purchase the item.

Generally, an asset's status is based upon the status of the asset or funds used to acquire the asset.

Thus, community funds used to purchase a car makes the car a community asset and separate funds used to purchase a car means the car is also separate property.
