Legal Question in Family Law in California
family law and the law firm I hate!
I hate my lawyers and feel they've done a reprehensible job in handling what should have been a super easy divorce. My husband and I have a child but no assets to split. They tried to serve him, altho' I asked in writing for them not to until I understood what a no-contest divorce was. They never got back to me. They had his wrong address, tho, so he never got the papers. My bill is already at 2000 and they've done nothing. So, now...since the papers are drawn up and ready to be given to him, do I continue with them and have him served? Or sue them and do a no-contest with my husband. What will be cheaper?
Because I asked them in writing to wait to serve him, do I have a case against the law firm? I've asked them to settle with me for 500.00 but they've not responded and only sent me papers to dismiss them as my attorney. The partner that I met with in my consultation never told me he would be handing me off to all the other people in the firm. I never saw him after that first meeting. Like interviewing a surgeon and you get to the operating table and someone else shows up. Please help me as I have no more money to ask another atty. what to do!!

You have not provided sufficient information. You should check with the local court about a family law clinic. A law clinic can provide you with assistance in this matter. If there is no law clinic then you will have to either retain another attorney or study the law books to learn what you need to do to complete the divorce. Some attorneys will go piece work, that is the attorney will help you with a portion of the divorce process, such as the property disclosure etc.

You do not qualify for a summary dissolution.
