Father does not pay the support to his son. He pays the support to mother to reimburse for his share of the costs of raising a child. Without researching the issue, I suspect that there is an agreement between Australia and the US for reciprocal child support enforcement procedures. I know that Canada and the US have such an agreement. You need to consult with an attorney to determine what action you should take prior to the move. You do not want to move to Australia and then have father obtain a court order that you must return the child to California. Obtaining a written agreement from father that you can move to Australia may be sufficient. If paternity is an issue, resolving that prior t moving will speed up the child support issue.
