Father of child in prison, is to contest adoption of his daughter
My son is in prison, to be released Sept. 2007.The m. grandmother and her husband received guardianship 2 yrs ago.Now,with my sons release in less than a year they want to adopt my granddaughter (wouldn't allow me to visit my granddaughter during this time).My son has the right to attend this hearing and to be appointed an attorney to contest the adoption (will this be a public defender type atty. or an actual street attorney?)My son has done everything in his power during his incarceration to change his whole being. On the other hand the mother of his child ended up marrying a person that has also been in and out of prison & is presently incarcerated for injuring her.They have both used drugs and supposedly also at times sold them. They have a 1 yr old baby together.No matter what she has done she has never been stopped from visiting my granddaughter by her parents, yet, they feel my son shouldn't see her. As of yet the so 'concerned' m. g'parents have done nothing to 'save' this baby with guardianship, adoption or anything else.There is just too much to say here.Also, is it possible to find an attorney myself to represent my son and to have said person appointed by the court?...

You son needs to attend the hearing and request an attorney be appointed to represent him. Often these attorneys are hired by the county to represent parents. If possible you should consider retaining an attorney to represent him. He should be prepared to show how he has changed. He will have to insist that he wants to retain custody of his child.
