Legal Question in Family Law in California

can a father threaten to sell the house if a teenager does not move out?

My mom and stepdad have been married 12 years. They have 3 other kids together but he's made her stay home for the last 10 years to care for them. He never legally adopted me so he is not responsible for me. Currently they are living in 2 separate residences, with me and my mom (and the kids mostly) in one and him (and the kids sometimes) in the other, but he's paying rent on both. Him and I don't get along and even though I'm underage, he's threatening to stop paying rent where my mom and I are unless I move out (on purpose since my mom can't work since she's got kids at home- he refuses to work less hours or pay for childcare so that she can get a job). I'm underage and don't have the ability to move out yet but there's nothing my mom can do. Can he stop paying rent or is he still responsible since his wife and other kids live there? When asked about that, he says since he's responsible for THEM they can all move in with him, but I am not allowed to. I have to be out.

Please help me with this- sorry it's so complicated.

Under California law, your mother and father have a statutory responsibility to support you while you are under 18. Your step father has no legal responsibility to support you.

Your mother should consult with an experienced family law lawyer regarding her support rights.
