Legal Question in Family Law in California

My father-in-law has dementia. He needs to go into a facility. He has enough money to pay for it for a year or two. What we need to know is when he runs out of money are we legally responsible for him? I need to check this for WA and Calif. We and my sister-in-law do not have the means to take him in or pay for his care. What is the legal responsiblity of a child to their parent financially?

In California you have no obligation to support your parents. Watch out, however, for the care facility expecting you to contractually take on that responsibility as a condition of admitting your father to their program.
