Legal Question in Family Law in California

father's rights

In the state of California, if the couple is unmarried and the father's name is not put on the birth certificate, does the father have any rights? Can the father go to court to get his name added to the birth certificate without the mother's consent? Why should the mother put the father's name on the birth certificate?

Is there something besides the birth certificate you are concerned about? I am not sure you can amend the birth certificate, but he certainly can get visitation and/or custody depending on the situation.

I think you are asking about something else, because I do not see why the name on the birth certificate makes any difference, unless I am missing something.
