After you file
While in a Drug treatment center I filed for divorce , my husband who was out on bail, jumped and left to another state, I did not hear from him again, that was 4 years ago. After I had been at the treament center for a year they employed me I filed for divorce 3 years ago but I have very limited funds I paid the court clerk 280.00 and filed for divorce, but I never heard anything again the people at the drug treatment center said that was it I was divoced but others say no now. I am engaged to be married now to a wonderful man but dont have the finances to get the information from an attorney on if Im divorced Can you help?

Nothing happens automatically. So, if you mearly filed for a dissolution, and took no other action, you ARE NOT divorced. You did not indicate if your husband was served with the divorce papers before he disappeared. If the answer is "yes", you can proceed with your case. If the answer is "no", then your case can be dismissed by the Court after two years. There is also a 5 years statute to complete your case. Good luck.
