How to file?

I would ike to know what are the steps to filing for child custody and support. What forms do I need and how much it may cost me, with and with out a lawyer.

The "forms" that will be used depend upon whether or not you were married to the child's other biological parent.

For a specific opinion regarding your individual circumstances, I suggest that you consult with an experienced family law lawyer. Experience is not expensive, it's priceless!

You did not indicate if this is a dissolution of marriage or a Paternity Action. Also, If it is a paternity action, has there already been a judgment of paternity. If not, then you need to establish parentage.

For custody and/or support, You need to file an Order To Show Cause for custody and support. You will need a declaration in support of the request and a completed Income and Expense Declaration. You need to have the other party served with the documents.

The question of cost very much depends. I know this sounds very legalistic, but it's true. You are always better off if you have an attorney because your chances of success are greater.
