Legal Question in Family Law in California
I filed for divorce back on July 18. The property has not ever been seperated and we have a business and a house. I left with just 2 suite cases of clothes. If this is not settled in one year will I loose everything?

You do not lose your right to half the marital assets just because a year has passed. It isn't uncommon for divorces to take two or three years.
Ms. Beers is correct. On the other hand, it is highly unusual for you to have nothing but two suitcases of clothes after all this time. If you do not know how to move things forward and get your share of thing, along with any support you might be owed, you should hire an attorney. Before doing that you might want to pick up "How to Do Your Own Divorce in California" by Nolo Press, and see if that will get you on track. If after looking at that book, you still don't know what to do, call a lawyer.
