I filed for divorce in California Aug. 2009. served her by publication because I had no idea of her whereabouts. Now April 2010 I received papers via mail from the state of Michigan that she has filed for divorce.which divorce rules?

It depends. Did you only serve her by publication, or has the California court entered a default judgment? Did you give her notice of the default judgment? I doubt that she has had notice of the default judgment by way of publication. Does the State of Michigan have jurisdiction over you? I wouldn't be able to answer, because I don't know what your contacts are with the State of Michigan. Did you have the jurisdictional prerequisites to file a petition for dissolution in California? You need to speak to an attorney, who will ask you these questions to sort this out. There can be no simple answer without answering these questions.
