Legal Question in Family Law in California

I filed a petition for divorce in California in October 2009. I was working with The California Divorce handbook to complete the paper work. It became overwhelming so I recently went to an attorney. The attorney informed me that I have a very simple divorce. My husband and I do not own anything of value and have grown children.and are in complete agreement. He suggested filing an ammended petition to finish out our proceedings would save further filing fees and be any easy process . It seems like a perfect fit. The downfall is that the 6 months waiting period for the divorce to be final begins again once the ammended petition is filed. My divorce was to be final in April now it will be final in August. Is there anyway you can think of to have my divorce final to remain in April by filing this ammended petition?

Without looking at the paperwork to understand why the attorney advises filing an amended petition, it is impossible to give you any better or different advice than they are giving you.
