Legal Question in Family Law in California

After filing

I filed for summary of dissolution last August. I am currently in 6 month waiting period. What is status of my ex-husband and I right now? Can I still be responsible for his debt after filing the divorce?

Re: After filing

Your status is probably legally separated, which means you are not legally responsible for any debts he incurs after the separation date. However, if he has access to any credit cards or revolving credit in both of your names, the credit card company can still hold you liable on a theory that you did not timely notify them and are therefore responsible under the contract you signed.

Mr. McCoy is correct, but you can also be liable during the separation period for any debts your spouse incurs for "the necessities of life."
