filing initial divorce petition on power of attoreney

Couple got married in India as per Hindu Marriage ACT. Boy is in USA on assignment and girl stayed with him for sometime but is back in India due to marital discord,His parents take plea that he cannot come to India immediately because of ongoing assignment but is willing for divorce on mutual consent . Can they file initial divorce petition on his behalf on power of attorney . He assures he that he will be present before court during final hearing .
