Filing for legal custody

I am filing for legal custody of a my child. What do I do if I do not know where the biological father resides? I do not even know what state he lives in so I am unable to serve him papers

You can get permission of the court to serve him by publication. Also, if you open a child support case, the D.A.'s office will try to locate him based on any information that you are able to provide.
