Legal Question in Family Law in California

I'm trying to fill out my FAFSA form, but when it comes to the section where I need to input my parents tax information, my father refuses to give it to me. He owns and runs his own business, and I am below the age of 24 (23) so I can't register myself as an independent just yet.

My legal question I suppose would be: Is there anyway to legally for my father to relinquish his tax information or am I out of luck in that aspect?

You are out of luck. Why should he have to provide private information to help you. If you are talking about listing your self as not being dependent upon your parents, you can do that at any age.

I've looked at the recently updated FAFSA form online. You have to provide parental tax information (specifically, social security numbers) if you answer no to all of the questions on step 3 of the form. So you may have to wait a year or two before applying for federal student aid, if he refuses to assist you.
