Legal Question in Family Law in California
Final divorce papers
I completed all the paperwork and the judge granted the divorce. I can't seem to get the final papers. I have given up on doing it myself and i know i need to go to a lawyer. My question is, once we fill out the final divorce package correctly, how long does it take to the the final divorce back.

The normal procedure is to send several copies of the various completed forms, for example Judgment (Family Law) and Notice of Entry of Judgment (Family Law) (both available from www.courtinfo.ca.gov), to the clerk of the courtroom together with enough pre-addressed and stamped envelopes for all parties. Normally extra pages are attached to the Judgment forms containing the specific terms of the judgment. If you forgot to take notes, you can buy a transcript of what the judge said from the court reporter. You can look up other family law judgments at the courthouse and copy the format. The courtroom clerk can tell you how many copies you will need. If you do not receive the signed and file-stamped paperwork back within two weeks or so, call the judge's clerk and politely inquire (or have your lawyer do it). You indicated that the court granted the divorce. However, were all the issues dealt with or were some issues reserved. I really need to have more information in order to give you stronger advice. Your problem should not be a difficult one.

How long it will take will vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. You might want to consider hiring a qualified paralegal assistant or licensed document preparer to assist you with the paperwork. We offer paralegal support services and can also refer you to licensed document preparer in your area.
