Legal Question in Family Law in California
Finance of spouse
My spouse has many debts and no savings. We are married and file married filing separate returns for many years, as I have no control on my spouse's finances. I have been working full time for many years and financially independent. Can my spouse's creditors come after my assets (my property and savings) in case of his death or if he is unable to pay off his debts

Re: Finance of spouse
As a general rule his debt that were incurred during the marriage are community debts and your assets could be attached to pay his debts. It will be more difficult to attach your wages if the debts are in you name alone. Dissolving the marriage is the method that is most likely to be successful in eliminating your liability for his debts.
