Legal Question in Family Law in California

Financial Responsibility While separated

I moved out of the house in April 05 since then I have been paying 1/2 the expenses of the house she lives and I moved out of plus my apartment expenses. She filed in Sept and her lawyer told her I am responsible for 1/2 of all of the day to day expenses for the house until the final divorce decree is entered. This is a financial burden to me and she makes a very good salary to? Do I have to pay 1/2 the utility bills and the like?

Re: Financial Responsibility While separated

After the petition for dissolution is filed the court should make an order for child support and spousal support. The amount of these payments would depend upon the particular facts of your case. But as a general rule the amount of support is based on your income, her income, the amount of taxes paid and the per cent of time the children are with each parent. In some cases you could be required to pay part of the house mortgage or other debts. For instance the mortgage on the house is $4,000 per month and the rental value of the house is $2,000. Your will be required to pay half of the difference between the mortgage and the rental value.
