My 18 year old son has was arrested for drunk driving and will be losing his license. If he drives and is involved in an accident, am I financially responsible? Should he still keep his insurance coverage? thank you for your help.

You would certainly be responsible if you owned the car. Otherwise, there may be some other reason where you would be vicariously liable, however, they are much more difficult to prove. The best course is to do what you can to prevent him from driving. Good Luck, Pat McCrary

If you own the car he drives, then you do have responsibility. Otherwise, he's on his own, and shouldn't be driving anyway if his license is taken away.

The insurance wouldn't be necessary if he's not driving, and you need to make sure he doesn't use any of your cars. I doubt the insurance would cover him if his license is suspended anyway.

You should also look into purchasing umbrella policy coverage, which shouldn't be more than $300 or so per year, which would give you $1 million or so in coverage over and above your auto and homeowner limits, just in case he uses the car without your knowledge and causes damage or injury to someone.
