Legal Question in Family Law in California

How do I find a date of divorce?

I need to know the date when someone was divorced. I know the date of the marriage; the county of marriage; the first, middle, and last names of both the husband and wife (at time of marraige); and that the divorce did not occur in the same county as the marriage during the expected time frame. I don't know the county that the divorce was granted in and am not 100% sure it happened in CA. Where can I go to find out the date without spending much money on paperwork fees, long distance calls, attorney fees, etc.?
