Legal Question in Family Law in California

I need to try to find a very economical way to contest a divorce in CA due to very limited income and resources. Legal aid does not help with divorce and I know of no other resources. I am looking for any options available but so far I think having some sort of litigation consultant to help me represent myself may be the way to go. I've seen this called unbundled services in another state. Any suggestions or resources you can point me toward would be greatly appreciated. I will be referring to the book "How to do your own contested divorce in California", but I think I need more help than that. My major concern is custody and the well-being of our two children. As an example of what I am dealing with, she stated I moved out of state when I went to be with family when my brother died. I had the kids with me for half the time I had been there and she claimed they were with her for 100% of the time. Her motivation is unchallenged control. She filed the amended divorce papers when I protested her secretly changing our son's schooling back to an alternative school in which he fell way behind in his reading and math to the point it has just taken two years for him to get caught up. He was in danger of being held back and I am very concerned. I am concerned not only about that but also the history of violence and abuse from her against both myself and my son (yes, I have reported instances to CPS when we were still together and since).
