how to find a legal address for minor children

my ex-husband got custody of my children because i did not go to court. i was awarded visitation in the state of washington. he took the children,left for califonia, sent me a letter letting me that his lawyer said he could leave. he left no forwarding address for ca. redwood city da contacted me concerning medical assistance for the children. i asked for their address, they said no. i asked for medication to speak to my children, he said no. he is not listed any where. when we were married, he used his mother's address for mail,how can i find to serve papers, since i cannot afford a lawyer?
