Legal Question in Family Law in California

Finding birth parents when names are aliases

I was born in Los Angeles in 1963 and my adoption was handled by the Adoption Institute of Los Angeles, which later became the Children's Home Society.

I hired a self purported adoption investigator over the internet who told me that the names of the birth parents on the original birth certificate are aliases. I have no way of knowing if this is true, and I did not see the certificate.

If it is true, how hard (and expensive!) could it be to pursue the search. And if not, then how do I get a copy of the certificate and start a search for the mother and father listed?

Thanks!

Re: Finding birth parents when names are aliases

Adoption files of that era are confidential. They can be viewed only by obtaining a court order. It would seem unlikely that anyone could obtain the names of the parents on the original birth certificate. If you want to pursue the matter contact a local attorney regarding the matter.
