Legal Question in Family Law in California

Finding legal placement for a defiant child

Can we request from a court that a 14 year child be placed in a foster care home or state ran facility due to the fact that he refuses to attend school or do anything he is required to do by his parents? Social services only offers counseling services and says that they can file abandonment charges against us if we make such a request.

Contact the child's school and ask about an IEP, (Individual Education Plan). The plan would include a group home or other program for the child. It may also include medication. The court can become involved, but this would also involve the Department of Family and Child Services. They would then take control over the child and would make all decisions about the child's placement etc. Also the court would require you to pay for the costs of this program. With the IEP the school district would pay for some or all of the costs.
