Legal Question in Family Law in California

Form FL-220

My husband and I were given some forms to fill out for a paternity case he is involved in. I want to know who fills out the form FL-220 (Response to petition to establish parental relationship)?

Re: Form FL-220

A petition to establish paternity is addressed to your husband and not to you. You would not respond unless you were joined to the case. Unless there are some unusual circumstances, you would not want to be a party to the paternity action. Parties to a family court action can be ordered to pay the attorney fees and other costs. As a non party the court would lack jurisdiction to order wife to pay any of these costs. You should consult with an attorney regarding the duties and responsibility of each of you in this matter.
