Legal Question in Family Law in California

I just found out I was pregnant and the relationship ended right before I found out. I want to get an abortion but cannot afford one on my own. Is there any way he can be made to pay for half of it? Or if not, how do I go about collecting child support?

When I was very young, my girlfriend got pregnant, and we got her an abortion. I have three fine sons now, but not many a day goes by that I don't think about my first child, how old he or she would be now, what they would be like, whether I'd be a grandfather now, . . . I'm not some pro-life nazi or anything, but just wanted you to think about it.

With that said, if you still want to go through with an abortion you should contact Planned Parenthood. I believe MediCal still pays for abortions, and Planned Parenthood can tell you for sure as well as point you to any other resources for funding the abortion. Forcing the father to pay is not an option.

If you decide to keep the child, the Dept. of Child Support Services will help you establish paternity and obtain an order for child support.

You can locate both your local Planned Parenthood and DCSS offices on the web, probably more easily than you found this site. ;)
