Legal Question in Family Law in California

On Friday 01/21/2011 a judge ruled that I am to pay $2104 a month child support on a NET income of $2880 a month. Is this leagle? At this amount I would be forced to lose my home (the family home) and be unable to support myself. How can i fight this?

This answer should not replace the advice given during an office meeting with an attorney skilled in family law.

California child support is based on a guideline originally designed by the California legislature in 1984. The key elements that can drive the calculation of support are: gross incomes of the parties, actual timeshare with the children and any tax advantages such as interest expense on home ownership.

I agree with Mr. McCormick's answer that you must meet with an attorney to see if there should be a revision of this order. Calculation of support can be nuanced.
