Legal Question in Family Law in California
i have a friend in Egypt. he married a woman from the US and applied for the visa. Their relationship hasnt been working out and he wants to divorce but she doesnt want to. Apprently in Arab countries when you marry you have to fill out a contract and the male puts a sum of money that he is to give the wife if he ever divorces her. She made him put 10,000 so now he is afraid of divorcing her and having to give her this money that he does not have. The wife also does not want to divorce because she thinks that divorcing him and cancelling their visa petition would hurt her chances in the future if she were to ever petition for someone to come to the US since she has already cancelled a petition before for her mother. The wife did send him a notarized letter saying that she wants to divorce him and does not want any money or anything from him. Would this be enough for him to take somewhere in Egypt to get the divorce from her?
and would it hurt his chances in the future if he were to ever go through the visa process again? I'm asking this because he told me that someone told him that there wasnt any number on that paper she sent him.. I'm guessing something like a case number. And since there is no case number if he were to ever apply for a visa again they would ask for this case number. I'm not sure what he means by this..

The first part of your question is governed by Egyptian law, which we are not qualified to answer. I have no idea what your friend means about a case number or what it would have to do with the question you ask.
