Legal Question in Family Law in California

A friend who's an inmate in a California prison, needs to divorce his wife. He wants to give me Power of Attorney to do this, but I need to know what forms I'll need for BOTH proceedings - POA + Dissolution for an inmate. PLEASE, help me get the right forms?

Thank you for your time and considreation.

Mr. Anderson is correct. A power of attorney makes you an "attorney in fact" not an "attorney at law." You can't do legal work for someone under a POA unless you are a licensed lawyer.

I agree with the above. He needs to retain an attorney licensed by the State Bar to file the divorce.

You can not act as his attorney in a legal proceeding However, there are several self-help online services which may help you find and prepare the forms for him. You can also check with the county clerk's office in the county where either he is incarcerated or where the wife lives. They should have a help desk for the public and can provide you with the correct forms. However, they can not give legal advice.
