Legal Question in Family Law in California

A Frustrated Family Member

I am a distant family member who has found a relative in the foster care system. I am in the process of adopting this child but I am running into problems. Inorder for me to have visitations with this chid they tell me that I have to do a few things first such as fingerprints, attend parenting classes, CPR/ First Aid classes and ect After doing everything that the adoption agency has told me to do I still can not see this child. I have even spoken with the childs county socialworker and was given the ok for visitation to began. Everytime I call to speak with someone concerning the matter It feels like they are giving me the run around like they don't want me to have visitations with this child. What can I do? I am very frustrated because noone wants to help or give me any straight answers. Please help I am trying to give this child a place to call home.

Re: A Frustrated Family Member

I can understand your frustration. CPS is very difficult to deal with. You will never get a straigt answer and they have their own agenda to take on.

You did not say why the child is with CPS. Are you related to the mother or the father of the child? Are there other relatives involved trying for custody or vistation on either side. Where is the mother? Will she consent to you adopting the child. How about the father? Do you have an attorney helping you with the adoption?

Please do not try to do this on your own. Many attorney's will not deal with CPS cases because of the frustration and red tape. It will not be cheap but if you really want to rescue this child from the system you needl competant legal advise and need to act quickly and appropriatly. Time is of the essence.
