giving up parental rights

my husband gave up his parental rights during his divorce.his ex wife asked he judge to take his rights away. he gave up his rights but was not order to. his understanding the jugde also reminded his wife that by doing so he no longer had any child support obligations. after she lost custdy of the kids and they now live with her mother. she is receving state assistance. my husbands check are being garneshed. is this legal

Giving up your parental rights does not mean that you are freed from parental responsiblities. It is not surprising that he has to pay support for a child that he has not rights to. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
