Legal Question in Family Law in California

Giving up Parental rights

Iam a parent of 6 children, 2 of whom live with me the other 4 are either out of state or I have no idea of their whereabouts. I feel that since I don't have any sort of communication or visitation with them and I will not have, I feel that it is the best for them and myself to terminate my parental rights. I feel that they will have a better life with their mothers and the significant others that they live with, do to my financial status and stability I am under severe poverty and can not afford to take care them. Will I be able to give up my rights? Thank You

Re: Giving up Parental rights

You can relinquish your parental rights to yours ex's signigicant other but they must file a step parent adoption to adopt the children before your obligation would end. It may be in your interest to offer to pay fot the adoption by the new father to motivate them to go forward. It is not very expensive and would be over in a couple of months assuming she has been with him for at least a year.
