Legal Question in Family Law in California

Do Godparents have rights?

My niece has two kids (7 & 3) who are also my unofficial godchildren. I have formed a strong bond with them and give them nothing but love and happiness. My niece has decided that she doesn't want her kids to have anything to do with the family and has kept the kids away from us for 6 months now. I know if I were to see the kids, they would come running to me for big hugs and kisses. Do I have any legal rights to see the kids? Do grandparents have legal rights to see the kids?

Re: Do Godparents have rights?

Grandparents do by statute have the ability to assert visitation rights. Others do too, if they can establish that the contact is in the "best interests of the child." It is not easy for you as godparents, but it is possible.
