Legal Question in Family Law in California

Grandparent Legal custody

My Grandaughter has lived with my husband and myself since June 1th 2007. My Grandaughter is 6. She told her Mom she did not want to live with her anymore because of the life she lives and all the different guys she bring around. So my daughter packed all her things and let her move in. My daughter has been with 13 different men in the past 2 years. 4 of them lived with her and my 2 grandkids. She and her on and off boyfriend fight all the time. The police know them both very well. My daughter has a history of alcohol abuse, However I can't prove that. I told my daughter I am going to file for legal gaurdianship of my grandaughter and she said if I do and I lose then we will never get to see my grandaughter again. My daughter put my grandaughter in horrible sitautions. If I tell her no she can't take her daughter she says she's my daughter nothing you can do. I beleive legally she is right. I don't have the money to hire an attorney for help. Please help, what can I do?

It is a difficult choice that you have to make. Your daughter may be able to carry through on the threats that she has made. I suggest that you talk to a guardianship attorney so that you can make an educated decisions. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
