Legal Question in Family Law in California

Grandparent Rights

I have recently completed a stepparent adoption. My wife is the biological mother and the father was never involved in the childs life and the biological father was never married to the childs mother. In the adoption process he signed over his rights to the child. Do his parents have any rights (ie visitation etc) on the child?

Thank you

Re: Grandparent Rights

The grand parents have no legal right to visitation. However, you do not state what contact the bio father's parents have had with the child. The best interest of the child should be the determining factor not the legal rights. If the child has had a realtionship with the bio father's parents,it would be in the child's best interests to allow them to maintain this relationship.

You should discuss this with the bio father's parents and your wife to make sure that there interst is the child. Try to keep the personal feelings out of the decision on visitation.
