Legal Question in Family Law in California

I was granted 3 yrs. of alimoney while finishing college. However the judge stated that I may return.

It has been over 20 years and I have been reading that it is possible to request alimoney now that I need it. I was married for 13yrs.

Thanks

Mary

You can try to petition the court for additional alimony, but I would find it hard to convince the judge that within 20 years you have not been able to be self supporting. Unless you were in a horrific accident and disabled I would find it difficult to argue.

For self represented individuals you can consult with the family law facilitator self help center at your local court house.

As always please consult a local attorney prior to taking legal action. Good luck. Also please check out my Santa Clara County Family Lawyer blog.
