Legal Question in Family Law in California

Greetings,

My soon to be ex-husband and I were scheduled (by the courts) to attend a Family Law Status Conference. It is unclear to us why we are required to have this conference as our divorce is simple, no children involved and no disputes between us.

My question is, what happens if one (or both) of us do not attend this conference?

Thank you for your time.

Well, if you DO go, then you can finalize your divorce. I would think that is what you are ultimately seeking. In the alternative, you may also want to submit a judgment prior to that date and that would most likely take that date "off calendar". Good luck.

If you do not attend the court will set the matter for an Order to Show Cause hearing regarding monetary sanctions for failure to appear, and a further CMC. You don't get to file a case with a court and then not show up when the court orders you to appear to report on the status of the case and what further proceedings are anticipated and when they will occur.

You need to check the local rules. You may be able to appear by phone through court call.
