Legal Question in Family Law in California

Guardian's Rights & Responsibilities for teen pregnancy

The legal guardian in question is the grandparent of a 16 y/o girl, both of her parents are in jail. This 16 y/o has become pregnant by her 18 y/o boyfriend.

The questions are:

Does the legal guardian/grandparent have any rights to determine whether the 16 y/o keeps the baby or puts it up for adoption?

Does the legal guardian/grandparent have any legal responsibility for the care and support of the new baby?

Can the legal guardian/grandparent terminate the guardianship due to the continuing lack of this 16 y/o following house rules, violating curfew, wilful and dangerous disobedience.

What is a guardian (or even a parent for that matter) to do when the 16 y/o is so out of control?

Contact a counselor that has experience in this type of case. If counseling is not successful then contact the police, or department of social services and ask for assistance. If all else fails you can withdraw as the guardian. This will result in a public guardian appointed.
