Legal Question in Family Law in California
what do you have to do to get guardianship of a child?
1 Answer from Attorneys
For guardianship, you would need to determine if the child has parents, if there is consent for the guardianship. If there is no consent, the chances of getting a guardianship are very difficult because the true parents would be fighting to prevent it. If the parents agree, then the process can mostly be done through agreements without the necessity of hearings.
For self represented individuals you can consult with the family law facilitator self help center at your local court house.
As always please consult a local attorney prior to taking legal action. Good luck. Also please check out my Santa Clara County Family Lawyer blog.
